I'm 'bout happier than a pig in a blanket at the moment! First I received the package I ordered from Tony with all the emissions bits I need to change out and add to my car, plus a fan switch to replace the one that disintegrated in my hand a few months ago. So, I have some fun stuff planned for this weekend. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Second, I got an disected pool noodle in the mail today that Doc so graciously bestowed upon me!! yummy yummy yummy! Had to run around the office terrorizing a few of my favorite lady friends with it today! I had great fun asking them if they wanted to play with my pool noodle too! 'Cause "it's big... and green!" /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

As a bonus, I found a HS-6 in the pool noodle box too!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif I had to fondle that lil' puppy for about an hour or so and run around showing it off to the gear heads, and explainin' how it works to the fuel injected motor heads... great day for a Wednesday!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Thanks for the HS-6 and pool noodle Doc!!! I'm gonna have so much fun tearin' that puppy down, rebuilding it, and then installin' it onto me 'B! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Many thanks goes to Tony for getting them other devil'ish parts out to me too! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Thanks again to both of you!

A Kiddie swimming pool toy: closed cell foam, extruded in a 3" DIA hollow shape, six foot long, comes in colours!... $0.75 at K-Mart.

He got the unused part of my '64 MGB facia "crashpad" upgrade.

My sole purpose in life is to bring joy to others...

NOT!

...But it DOES give me pleasure to aid people I LIKE.

Wear it in good health, Rob!!! Oh, and the induction device too. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif

oh yeah! I was eye'ing the air filter and the way the bugger attaches to the carb... made the mistake of taking it off and then futz'ed with it for a bout 20 minutes trying to get it back together... I can see that bit o hardware being 20 times easier to work with if it's mounted to something... heh

oh yeah, again! anyone have pictures of a SU with float bowl take off for ventilation to a charcoal canister?

It was still attached to the maniflold when I took it off and cleaned/painted it. I feel your pain, tho. It's a "three-handed" job.

definitely a 3 handed job with it unattached to anything. Ended up having a small handed person put the close tolerance nut-n-bolt back in.

I owe ya big for that carb Doc!

Nahh... but th' POOL noodle, well...

hehehehe...but it is fun to see somebody get as excited about MG parts as I do...& when I have a bad day - like today - it makes me feel good!

Now we can try to figger out what needle you need for that monster. It was a "gang of two" in a Volvo 1800, so likely ain't fat enuff for yours. Time for the "homework."

Anyone have a good chart? Some "starting point" suggestions?

Doc, I'm thinking an MGB engine with a pair of those would be one heck'of'a historic racer!!

I found a nifty 'lil proggy on the Spridget section of the forums not too long ago that makes needles suggestions based on the amount of modifications you've made to the engine... all the way down to tire size. Unfortunately the proggy didn't include any wheel tire size combos over 13" ... still nifty.

I just searched the Spridget section again and discovered there's also a web based needle suggestion tool out there too...

Here's the thread that I found all this nifty stuff on: https://www.britishcarforum.com/ubbthread...p;page=0#157718

ah tony, i'm only going to be running one of these... as a ZS replacement. On the stock manifold at first. Once I get up the tools, hardware, etc. I'll have a custom intake manifold made up to allow the engine to inhale a bit easier... and exhale through a set of 'shorty' headers (primarily for ease of modifying for emissions fittings).

For now, I'm wanderin' where I should look for rebuild kits for this beast...

Tony - Moss - VB. I'd go with the first... He can probably get you a rebuild kit from moss for good $$.

ah... but the big Q is which kit it needs...

I noticed the choking mechanism is binding and tends to stay open... but that could be because the hose on the bottom has hardened to the point that it don't flex at all anymore.

I kinda think it'd be more like crud. I didn't take it down to bits but I think if you just disassemble and clean it well it'll be acceptable. I shoulda sent you one of these extra carb tool kits I have so's you'd have an "anvil" to center the jet. I didn't think it through too well, apparently. Undo the "gland nut" on the bowl side of the fuel supply line, remove the Phillips screw holding the arm to the jet and slip the jet out the bottom. Clean it's length with #00 steel wool, and the bore in the carb with same. Be sure to clean all well, lube it with motor oil (Just a film) and reassemble. I'll bet it'll slip in an' out like... well... it should work FINE after that.

My concern is the shaft bushes. They're not hateful, but not "new" either. I think the rest of th' beast is "serviceable" enuff to use as is, aside from the needle size issue.

sounds good to me... I did notice the play on the throttle shaft... but I have some ideas on how to work around that.

on a side note: I thought these things had diaphrams similar to the ZS carb... When I disassembled the dash pot last night I noticed there was none, nor was there any room for one... really interesting... had fun disassembling and reassembling the major parts lastnight... along with studying how everything interacted with other bits to make it work... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

That honkin' piston is what ZS thought they could eliminate with the diaphragm... To my way of thinking it was a mistake. It sold a LOT of rebuild kits, just to fix a pinholed condom tho!

"Breath Control"

mehheh.

LoL!

I'm gonna have to read through the carb manual tonight to see how everything is supposed to function... the piston movement seemed a bit... slow to me lastnight.
