Woohoo! I've lost 72 lbs!

Jaybird,

I have found that to be true. My frame has become
used to this lower wqeight and moderate exercise
(3 mi/day walk). When I overindulge like on
vacation, I shed the added weight within a few days.

Also, I think cooking a "no salt added" diet helps
keep the weight off.

And learning "just say no" to yourself is a major
milestone. Lordy, how I miss macaroni and cheese.

Hello, my name is Janel and I'm a carboholic.

Potatoes, pasta, rice, baked goods, breads - if it has flour or rice or cornmeal in it, I am addicted to it. Compound that with being a hopeless sugar addict. I can literally not eat the entire day and sit down with a quart of ice cream and a spoon. And justify it, calorie by calorie. I don't need to ever eat meat again and I MAKE myself eat fruits and vegetables, but lordy I do love my carbs and sweets.

Congratulations-- for sure.

Since my profession is nutrition I feel I can comment that the "secret" is typically a combination of the following (from national data over years of continued study):

True changes in lifestyle eg--
-- Purposeful exercise 60-90 minutes per day
-- Continuous self monitoring
-- Foods of less caloric density and higher volume
-- Usually lower fat/less fried foods (but not always)

Typically results in more fruits/vegetables/whole grains, smaller and maybe more frequent meal/snacks.

Hard work, and a real committment but later it becomes part of the lifestyle.

"Hard work, and a real committment but later
it becomes part of the lifestyle."

Once the lifestyle thing kicks in, it is amazing
the self control that follows."

Hey I'm one of these sad cases that needs to put on 72lbs. I eat like a horse but never put on weight. Any advice Jaybird? I'm 5 feet 11 inches and 140lbs on a good day. My dad always said I would put on weight when I started drinking beer. Tried that, it didn't work! Moved onto cider, still no progress, lager the same. Mrs Catfood wants to swap some of 'hers' for some of 'mine'. Roughly the same weight but 11 inches difference in height!

Can you have a lyposuction transplant?

well Steve, if you can find the 72lbs that Howard lost and strap it on with a belt or something, we'll have struck balance once again. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

Congratulations! I know exactly what it takes.

I lost 88 lbs. 3 years ago and have kept almost all of it off. I have gained back just a little, but those around me say I didn't look good at my lowest (6'3"- 192#). I'm now a happy (same height) 210#. I ran just over 8 miles Saturday, 3 miles uphill yesterday, and 5.5 this morning- I can't be backtracking too much.

Just remember,it's a lifetime decision.

Congratulations to Zack and all other "losers"!

My son inspired me by his running and determination to lose weight, and I have been running for 5 months now. Weight is down from 190lbs to 178lbs, which is not bad as I am 6 ft tall.
(I ran 15kms (which is 9.375 miles) on Saturday in 95 minutes, working on 10 miles in 100 minutes. Before October the last exercise I had was a softball game I played in 1977, unless you count push-starting LBC's!)

Simon.
