My cousin was a radio DJ and record promoter for many years.

Recently, he uncovered this juicy little item: the pay rates for the bands that performed at Woodstock.

Interesting!

Joe Cocker needed a little help from his friends, according to that!

I was thinking that at those prices, I could have Santana perform at my next birthday party! :highly_amused:

Me too! Interestingly, as I look at the numbers relative to each other - ((and in light of history & personal taste) there are only a few I would change.

Santana - much higher
Grateful Dead - higher

Sly & Family Stone - lower
Canned Heat - much lower
Ravi Shankar - lower

interesting!

I'm a Joe Cocker fan and have a lot of his more recent stuff, but this (which I know has ben posted before) just cracks me up.

(I'm guessing he did something other than Wonder Loaf that day)

An oldie but a goodie:

Melanie?! I didn't know she played at Woodstock.

Interesting list as it shows the ascendency (C, S & N) and descendency (Blood Sweat & Tears) of some groups. 'Course Woodstock really changed the careers of many of these (though they didn't know it at the time).

Melanie?! I didn't know she played at Woodstock.

I had a crush on Melanie in my "yute". Here's an interesting interview where a more grown-up Melanie Safka explains how she came to play at Woodstock.

Amusing that she's so often remembered for "A Brand New Key" given all her other tunes (notably in the late 60s). She must have been the youngest performer then (at 18).

My favorite Melanie song:

Just saw that Santana is playing at Trump Doral golf course tonight. I'll bet he's getting more than $750.

I'm amused by Kathy Fountain's hairstyle.

Jimmy Hendrix, $18,000! Janice Joplin $7500. Joe Cocker $1375. I thought Janice demanded more money than that. That pay list is pretty neat. :encouragement: PJ

How about a bit of fun, based on that list what's peoples top five if they could see them (in there prime) again. Here's mine

1) Hendrix
2) Janis Joplin
3) CCR
4) Jefferson Airplane
5) Canned Heat

With Santana, Ten Years After, the Band and the Gratefull Dead (if I was suitably enebriated) close behind
