Wood steering wheel

I bought a 1974 gt, it has a wood steering wheel and shift knob, was this a option when new or aftermarket. Also thinking of installing OD transmission. where is proper place for OD switch, on washer switch or shift knob? now I will ask the impossible, any leads on a OD transmission?

Aftermarket.

I'm sure ODs are around. seems to me I saw some advertised not long ago. There are also 5-speed conversion available as an alternative to the OD.
 
Adam is correct. All 74s had the switch built into the wiper switch, whether the car was equipted with overdrive or not, the switch is the samd. Forward toward the dash is off, back toward the steering wheel is on. There are overdive trannies available through many sources including Ebay that I see from time to time. I have had MGBs with and without overdrive and will never own another without.

In reply to the first part of your question, a wooden steering whell and shift knob would have been dealer-installed options, all factory cars came to the dealer with standard items, so if you are thinking of going that route but keeping correct for the period you would be okay. My 1980 has a Moto Lita wheel and a wooden shift knob, which give every indication of having been installed when the car was new.

Aftermarket for sure. Anyone could intall these including the original or any following owners.
