Won't Start!!!

It was the stinkin condensor!!! Thanks for all the suggestions. Merry Christmas and I'm off to drink all the stress away from this trying experience.

Dang, we all missed it! That was my very next post...Condenser. Yeah, right.

That said, when in doubt, how many times have these little cans disabled one of our cars. Cheap to change.

Maybe this the excuse you needed ask Santa to upgrade to an electronic ignition

From the other camp: Don't do it.

That said, I have a brand-new, slightly used Pertronix electronic ignition setup (that fits my TR6) that I will sell, cheap. Includes the appropriate Flame-Thrower coil. The wires were shortened a bit for neatness sake, used for about 100 miles. Make an offer.

I have had really bad luck in the last five years or so with POS condensers. Three bad ones in my Buick-powered '49 Ford alone in two years. These things are being produced in the far east and sold as quality parts...which they are not!

Re: Won't Start--Question

Question: Before you replaced the condensor, the car would often start and run? But hard to start? Or it never even would start?

Re: Won't Start--Question

The car was hard to start for the last week or two. The engine seemed as if it was starved for fuel. There was also a hesitation like there was a carb problem. Then the car would just crank and crank and never start. Replaced the condensor and the car runs excellent. Starts with half a turn, cold or hot, no hesitation, barely need choke.

Re: Won't Start--Question

So, are you now carrying a spare condenser like most of us do?
I've kept some old ones that were working fine, but got changed as a part of routine maintenance.

And ~CRUSH~ the known bad ones to be sure they don't get mixed in... use a lump hammer. Punish the thing for the agro it caused, and work out your aggression a bit. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Re: Won't Start--Question

Moss got a order that day. I have a tune up coming my way. I'm glad it was that simple to fix!! I also learned my car is in good running order as I checked for the problem.

I got this image of HorseMitts explaining "normal" noises in the garage to a guest. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif
