My TR6 wouldn't start a few days ago. I checked fuses and took apart the ignition switch and reinstalled switch. It started. Just went to get fuel and it died again. Was running perfectly fine to this point. Any suggestions?

Is it getting fuel? spark? When it restarted, did it run smoothly? What are some of the symptoms. if any?

I drove it about 4 miles with no problems. It seems to be on the circuit that controls stop lights and turn signals. Fuses are all okay.

Connectors can sometimes fail w/o giving any outward indication that the circuit is broken. On 4-cyl TRs the (white/black) wire from the coil to the distributor is especially prone to breaking inside the insulation. Looks fine but continuity becomes intermittment (fiddling may restore the connection for a bit, bouncing down the road may break it again).

TR6 may have a similar wire or other trouble spots. If the disruption includes lights as well as ignition then it must be pretty close to the start of the circuit.

Thanks just had it rowed home (4 miles). I will have mechanic look at it. I am not mechanically inclined.

There is a pigtail coming off of the ignition switch. My old car had a loose wire on the back side of the connection. Drove me nuts for a while.
Try jiggling the ignition switch wires to see if one is loose.

Check for a loose connection at the ignition coil. On Lucas coils, the spade connector is riveted to the coil. If the spade connectors are loose on the rivet, this may be your problem as it can cause intermittent connection. My TR6 drove me crazy with this problem until I finally caught the problem. Replaced the original coil with a new Lucas sport coil over 8 years ago and no problems since.

The northeast has had quite a bit a rain lately, eh?

Not a chance someone hadn't converted this baby to electric fuel pump?
Bill, you have 2 TR6's and you aren't mechanically inclined, yet! You better get cracken, lad. Those mechanics up there are pressing hard on a C-note per hour. Go get yourself a Bentley manual and start enjoying your new hobby.

If your TR6 is unrestored, start looking for shorts and loose grounds. Buy Dan Masters' book on Triumph electricals. The Forum is behind you, except I won't push, that's my wife's job.

Bill

I got it narrowed down to the ignition switch. I hope. I do some mechanics on it, but mostly my buddy does the work for a case of beer. I sold one of the triumphs last year. We didn't get that much rain. Thanks for the pun. I need spell checker .
