I have 52 mg mark2 . It was starting then it stopped. I turn the key on and get the indicator light. Pull the starter and nothing happens. I replaced the starter and starter swich. Still nothing. I replaced the 2 fuses and still nothing. I get 12 volts at the stater switch. Battery is good. Any ideas where to go from here?

Greg, you posted in the British Motorcycles forum. I'm moving your topic to our MG forum. I will put a re-direct to the thread in the Motorcycle forum so people weill still see it, but when they click they will be redirected to the MG forum.

Greg, hopefully not a huge issue.

First thing I would do is try and isolate where the problem is.

Take a jumper cable and go directly from the battery to the starter. If the starter turns over, it is the wiring. If it doesn't it is the starter.

If it is the starter, before you start worrying about the starter itself, confirm that you have a good ground from the engine to the frame. (you can use your other jumper as a ground cable to test.

You ought to be able to test the starter switch with a continuity tester

If the switch works, you ought to be able to trace it down - switch to solenoid - solenoid to ground

Battery to solenoid - to starter to ground. (engine block)

I will admit that when I had a none start issue I had the solenoid wired wrong.

Good luck and keep us posted!

Got voltage out of the switch? With all but the solenoid being replaced, seems that'd be the culprit. Though I'd check all circuitry for continuity and/or voltage as JP suggests.

I'm assuming the Bendix isn't jammed, is it?

The only wiring issue at the solenoid would be the brown wires on the wrong post. This probably isnโ€™t the issue.

I'm only familier with my Midget, but, never ever underestimate my ability to screw up wiring. ๐Ÿ˜

Everyone sorry for the delay getting back I was called out of town. Well it was a combination of things. The starter was bad and replaced. I also replaced the starter switch. The new starter switch was bad as well. Once I installed the new switch it turns over fine. Now Iโ€™m dealing with it not starting. The battery was low so I have it on a charger. If thatโ€™s not it Iโ€™ll check for spark and go from there. It hasnโ€™t been started for a couple months so is there something else I should be looking for?

If you are asking about the dash switch, then yes.
Starter solinoid is wired with the brown leads on the battery side.

Ok, how do I know which side is up on that switch. Itโ€™s identical on either side. Iโ€™m a backyard mechanic so if Iโ€™m missing something let me down easy.

It doesnโ€™t matter what side you use. just fit the battery lead and the brown wires to the same side. The other cable goes to the started motor. The switch just opens up to allow current once the cable on the facia is pulled.

If it has been a few months, the gas could be going off. Do you have starter fluid?
also, if it hasn't been starting are the plugs clean?

glad you are close!!

ok Iโ€™m back. This was my first drive in 52 MGTD/C. It runs rough with no power out of 1st, 2nd and 3rd but once it gets up to speed it smooths out and runs great. What should I be looking for?
