WOAH!!! It's SNOWING!!!

13 inches by this morning, then it quit. Might get some more tonite. 27 % of our spacious county is without power, (about 6100 homes). We've had outages off and on since yesterday evening. I've been cleaning out the workbench in the garage today, taking advantage of some down time. Made a good dent in it. Might have to break out the snow shovel tomorrow to clear the driveway. (did I mention that our drive is about 400' long and the bottom 75 feet are about a 35 degree incline?)
Hope you're all warm and cozy...

He's talking about the seasonal default forum theme sheesh! Scroll to the bottom and select "default theme"

Wow... doc , you're right the Winter car forum made me blink twice.
Basil..... so what is in store for the halloween theme.....

As far as the real winter topic....... all you in the eastern part of the country..... Virginia, Maryland and West Virginia declared states of emergency because of the blizzard .... stay warm and keep the fire going.

Saw that beach shot.

Sand castles *and* snow forts?!?

I was out shoveling the driveway and a snow mobile just went up the road. I've never seen one in Fairfax, Virginia before.

Down Hampton way there was an ice storm back in '72... I was on Buckroe Beach... I really WANTED a "snow machine" that morning.

We got some snow yesterday and overnight, but not enough to make the roads all that slick. Good layer of fresh wet stuff on top of the icy stuff that was already there. Took the dog for a walk this morning and played in it for a good long while-he loves it!

Might actually put on my warm coat and a scarf and go for a hike tomorrow.

O.K. Had my coffe, the wife is already outdoors with the dogs, (3 yr old rescue pups: half pit, half huskey with blue eyes!). Guess it's time for the inevitable: cold feet, 400 foot of driveway, one foot of snow and the heart attack. Stay warm, mi hermanos y hermanas!

My inconvenience is limited to puttin' on long pants and actual shoes n' socks. I am not envious. It went all th' way down to 48*F over night here. That's low enuff.

Do NOT push that snow shovelin' thing. No heart attack inducing activities, PLEASE!

Here's the before and after. Only about 18" but luckily it's powder and very light. Were expecting high winds and 4'-8' snow drifts are inevitable. Not your typical "Island" weather were having. Last year it snowed .5" all season.

Sorry Jay but the '63 had to go back in the garage for this one.

When I was in Biloxi (stationed at Keesler back in the early 70's) they had snow one December or January and it was the first snow they had had in something like 9 years, as I recall. Needless to say, the locals did NOT know how to drive in snow and were running off the road all over the place!

As if people who live with it know what to do! There are cars blocking side roads, exit ramps and on the sides of the street. I was out in my Ranger (4 wheel drive not that I needed it) and I came upon a guy who did not take a turn wide enough to avoid some deep snow. I decided to be nice, stop and help push. First off he's out in the snow on 22" rims with zero profile but after a few pushes I get him back in the light stuff. What does he do? Goes back in the same tracks I just pushed him out of. By that point I was already in my truck and was looking back in my rearview. Sorry not freebies on 2nd's.

Some of us do! Having spent 7 years in Great Falls, MT, I learned how to drive on the stuff. First thing to learn - respect the conditions and stay withing the limitations of the vehicle! Having all wheel drive doesn't mean you can fly past people on ice with impunity!

Sure they can. But then we get to pass them when they are out in the middle of a field after losing control. Everyone has the same brakes.
