As a kid growing up in Massachusetts, I was lucky enough to see him play. His summer camp was in the town next to mine and I used to see him around town pretty often. What a beautiful swing.

He used to say that he could see the seams on the ball as it was coming. Hmmmmmmmmmm.

I believe he was also a fighter pilot in two wars.

Yep, just think what his stats could have looked like if he hadn't spent time away in Europe and Korea. I'm thinking it was a 4 year loss of baseball.
