Jim and Edna were both patients in a mental hospital. Always seen together because they were the best of friends.
One day as they were walking past the hospital swimming pool, Jim, without warning suddenly jumped in . It was the deep end and he sank to the bottom and stayed there.
Edna almost without thinking jumped in also but swam to the bottom and pulled Jim up to the surface where help was waiting to pull them both out of the water.
When the hospital director heard of Edna's heroic act he immediately ordered that she should be released from the hospital as she had demonstrated ability to think clearly and take appropriate action. When he went to see Edna to give her the news that she was being discharged he said " Edna, I have some good news and some bad news. The good news is that you are being discharged since you were able to rationally respond to a crisis by jumping in and saving the life of another patient. I have concluded that your action displays a sound mind. The bad news is that Jim, the patient you saved, unfortunately, immediately went into the bathroom hung himself using his bathrobe belt and I am sorry to say that he has died."
Edna thought this over for a moment and then said " I had hung him up in the bathroom to dry. How soon do I go home?"
