Wife just told me she is pregnant with #2. This pregnancy was not planned, but it is not unwanted. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif

The more I think about it, the more I think the right thing to do is sell the Midget. We can barely afford the kid we already have and the Midget likes to compete for funds /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif. But when I think about selling the Midget, I get real upset. The car is probably only worth about $1500-2000 if I sell it now. I have put so much time, effort and moola into it. If I sell it now, I will feel like I am throwing all that away. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cryin.gif

Any sage advice?

But Morris you can park the midget and come back to it anytime. Don't work on it unless it is free, make it a play toy only. Spend more time with wife. Pick up a second job for awile to finance the 2K.

Is not good to sell toys. Man does not live by bread alone. I have over the years sold so many toys that I should not have and looking back really did not need to. It's all part of growing older.

Congratulations of course, good on ya.

If you feel that all you could get for the Midget is $1500$2000, that isn't a make or break amount of money. From what I read from your post is that it's the money that you spend on the car for upkeep, insurance etc. If you have a place to store the vehicle, maybe that would be an alternative to selling it. Then when things ease up financially, you can put it back in operation.

There are a lot of cars that I've sold in the past for not a lot of money that I wish I had back now. Maybe you can find a way to keep it without sinking any more money in it.

Morris, we've all been where you are now. I agree, put the car up until the finances settle down. You can always come back to it later.

I had a '66 Pontiac Tempest that I bought in 1984 with only 19,000 miles on it. Sold it when we found out we were having our first. Thought the money would come in handy. In reality, the money was gone before we knew it and so was the car. 20 years later, I still kick myself for selling that car.

Yea, I sold a 66 Mustang GT I had since new in 71 for 800 bucks, duh.

Congrats Morris, that's the good news.

been there done that. just remember that he who dies with the most toys wins

Congratulations! I agree with the others, what you could get for the Midget is not going to make that much difference. Store the car properly so that it is no longer competing for funds, and come back to it when the time is right. Think about this......the amount you can claim for #2 on your taxes at the end of next year will be more than you could get for the car!

Congrats, Morris. I'd also throw in a vote for the store-it-for-now plan. If you have space, it costs nothing to store, and you'll want it someday, especially with all the work you've done so far. Midgets don't take up too much space, anyways...

Hmmm, turn it on end and put it in the front closet. Naaa, the oil would leak out.

I had one long ago sideways in my garage with a small car behind it and a cadilac on the other side.

Congrats on the baby! I would also recommend to not sell that car at this particular stage, you may running on emotions. Put the car up on skates and turn it sideways in the back of your garage, get back to it later. If finances become unbearable after the baby arrives, then cross that bridge. The car hobby is great for kids. I've got two boys and it's become a family affair. I picked my oldest up from school yesterday and we drove straight to a classic car place to celebrate his first day back in school.
