Wiring woes

So, now I am sitting here with a completely empty or stripped Bugeye (it came that way), a Moss wiring harness, and a basic BE wiring diagram. This is going to be pretty much impossible, isn't it? Jim

Oh heck no. Easy to put one together.

Sure wish you were closer. Wiring harness might take 20 min on an empty shell.

Please start with questions and pics, we will walk you through it. No prob at all, we all just love a project.

I appreciate the help, and will take advantage of it. (Will shoot you the specific questions directly.) The rear lights sub-harness and the front lights sub-harness is straightforward, and the dashboard gauge lights are pretty easy to figure out. But the rest is pretty confusing. The wiring diagram gives the basic high-level picture, but it is just not clear exactly how a lot of these wires are run, what connectors they go through, etc.

I had put a wiring harness in another project I was working on years back, and it came with excellent instruction sheets that laid out what went where. The Moss wiring harness just came in a plastic bag.

One document that is a big help is the key for the firewall grommets and wires. Most of your other needs can be done with photographs. In addition, one very, very, very helpful tool is a continuity light or buzzer. Just remember, do not, hook up anything to the battery until all the wiring has been checked out and all electrical items checked.
I'll get stuff together.

Actually there is a third bit of wire harness. That from the right side of the firewall, engine side. across to the light dimmer.

Never done a BE, but one thing I learned from doing several other cars is when doing the dash plug everything into the harness that can go into the dash from the back before installing the dash. Lots easier to do that and slide in the switches, ignition switch, etc rather than doing them lying on your back with a flashlight.

Another tidbit, use a mutitest as you go. It will give you confidence as you move through the process.. Also, if you're putting in a 1275 engine you will need a fuel pump and...wires to it. Most of us put it in the rear. There are other electrical wishes which are more easily addressed now rather than later. ie cooling fan, cigar lighter for Phone, or whatever charging, electronic tach add on... others here can chime in...and lastly this could take days on your first time through... patience is a virtue

Aye, when installing wiring to dash it is best to have dash in your lap.

Thanks, everyone. I found a wiring diagram in the factory service manual that shows the actual physical layout of the wiring system. The other diagrams seem to show a conceptual wiring layout, but not the actual connections, etc. This should help a lot. Jim

Not sure if anyone is interested, but I'm working on a custom ECU project for my Sprite (MK II). It brings the wiring into the 21st century adding relays and what not (also adding a custom gps enabled security system). Also hoping to bring in all the sensors (and adding some) to allow for better diagnostics.

I'm not totally done but I'd be happy to provide plans if anyone is interested when I'm done.

WoW, not sure Miss Agatha could handle the change. LOL
