Wiring question?

Could someone tell me or post a picture of the rear harness connections to the main harness in the engine compartment? I have connected some of the wires and believe them to be right but there are others I'm not real sure about.
Thanks

Harry, The only ones that should be a problem are the ones that go to the trans. A green will be power and a green/brown? will be to the rear lights. The harness for the trans has only green wires as I recall. Plug one green trans wire into a green at the harness and the other green trans wire will go to the green/brown?.. or is it a purple tracer....Your car also may have the seat belt light wire in that trans harness. I do not do enough later cars to remember if there is a color issue with them. Hollar if there is any special question you may have. Bob 704-907-0986

The problem is I am using the rear harness from my 73 parts car and I have an extra red wire that the 74 did not have, the main harness has only one empty female and that is a green wire. I have three wires that branch off the rear harness at the side of the trans. they are green with orange stripe and two brown with red stripe. The trans wiring has a red, yellow light green and white this trans. is out of a 75 or 76 I can't remember.

The green/orange wire is for the handbrake and pressure failure switch on the later cars. And I think your brown/red wires may be brown/purple and it looks like they are for seat switches, driver & passenger.
The only other suggestion is to just trace each one at a time and see if you can figure it out that way.No t too helpful,I'm afraid.

Stuart.

The wires that go up to the seat switches branch off about a foot or so behind the already mentioned three wires. The color is with out a doubt brown and red and the one was very hot at one time as the insulation is bubbled.

Just a thought but, one of those harnesses isn't out of a GT is it? I think they had an extra wire or two for a rear window defroster.

Solid red is usually hot on parking light switch. Could that be a tag light run?

Jus' throwin' out a WAG.

I would be EXTREMELY dubious about using ANY harness that
showed THAT, Bloomis !!!!!

Lucas SMOKE is one thing, Lucas FIRE is entirely another.

But oh well, not my car :hammer: :nonod: :nonono:

Ed, no disrespect but I think you are missing the point entirely. I am trying to find out where these wires go First then Replace or Remove as needed, it is the color we are trying to figure out I only mentioned the bubbling to indicate that the one wire had been connected to a hot wire or a switch that could have shorted. And its not BLoomis it is Hloomis!!!!!!!!!!!
But thanks for your observance anyway.

Harry, before I answer, remember I drive a Midget not a B - there I said it

Looking at the diagrams in the link above and my on (Midget) charts.

If you look at the bottom of page 15 in about the middle of the page, the Brown/Red wire is for the "butt" seatbelt switch

Same page 2 X Light Green/White is the seatbelt switches themselves.

Green/Orange as mentioned is handbrake light.

I can't see either the Green/Orange or the Red/Yellow you mention. However, if you look on page 30 at the seatbelts you see some different colours suggesting that they may have changed over the years. In terms of the harness and the green wire - I have a few green wires dangling that my schematic doesn't account for but which are from the factory. The red wire is almost certainly a light of some description - is there an interior light somewhere that wants a wire?

good luck!

good call
