I think you may have answered your own question when asking it. My manual shows a green and green/brown going to the reverse light switch.

And did it have power?
 
Ahh, run a wire from the hot side of something, like battery over the windscreen and to the switch, test again.

Proves the system, you got a wire disconnected someplace. Maybe at fuse block or ign switch. Where ever that comes from.
 
looking at the wiring diagram it shows a green and green/brown going to the reverse switch. This wouldn't have power, but would look to complete a circuit and activate a light that would probably have the power. It shows the green wire being continuous with. Sure it's not green and green/orange? Says that is a handbrake switch. Wish I had a scanner, I'd just zip you the diagram. I could type an explanation of all 4000 connections if you want?? :smile: Also, could consider just hard connecting the two wires and see what lights up.

good luck.... I just spent 3+ weeks sifting through a 68 sprite wiring harness that was hurting a little. It can be frustrating...I know! Good news is that it's done now and I put down primer today!!!
 
Solid green is usually the supply side, the tracer wire is "control".
 
Now that I see that in writing I concur of course. Wonder why I never figured that out my self.
