Wiring Harness puzzle plz help

Okay, I've been installing a new wiring harness in my 76 Midget. Everything has flowed along okay (except for the few parts I had to buy as when they were unplugged they basically fell apart) until I got to installing the new fuse box and it's connections.

Basically, right at the point of the harness where it conencts to the the fuse box I have six brown wires, with two of them having a black strip on them. On the old harness there are four brown wires that connect together with a white plasic connector box, basically forming a loop from wiring harness to wiring harness.

My question is, do these wires do anything? Seems odd to have wires spliced out of the harness to just connect back to each other.

I'll try to get a pic up when I can but if anybody has some insight I would apprecitate it.

From memory only, those brown wires supply the power to the hazard switch, the lighting switch and two others. The fuse box takes two brown wires and the rest are connected together. I think the wires with the black tracer go to the fuse box.
As I say,I'm going on my memeory, which isn't always a good idea. All the wiring diagrams show only two brown wires on the fuse box.

Stuart.

This sounds right to me Stuart. I've kept the original so I can look at it as I'm replacing with new and it only has two going to the fuse box, was just wondering what the other four do.

One thing I'd suggest is checking the diagrams for other years around 76. you might find you have the wrong year harness.

Don't think thats the case as the original has these wires as well, they are just connected together in a loop. I'm guessing they are there for other options and such. I'll get a pick this evening or tomorrow when the suns up and post it to show what I'm talking about.

Only two wires go to the fuse box. The others you connect together like the original harness.
I've just had a look at my Midget and that is how it is there.

You have two wires not four, and they are linked in that white connector thingy.

Brown is power supply, usually hot when the battery is connected. On your "old" pic the nylon block has the two banded (heavier gauge than the fused ones) ones going to one end ("in") and the two other ones at the opposite end ("out"). I see all four in the "new" photo.

If you go HERE and hit the MGB schematics link, scroll down to late '76 you will see the block referenced at the starter motor. Power from battery, thru solenoid to headlight switch.
