Wiring Check

I have just completed the last bits of the new wiring to the car and am now waiting for the engine to be returned.

Whilst twiddling my thumbs I thought that I would check out the wiring system.

The lights work, dip switch fine, horns fine, removed the wire from the fuel pump - don't want petrol on the nice shiny engine bay do we ! turned the ignition key and the ignition light comes on - good.

Pulled the wiper switch - nothing, tried the panel lights - nothing, tried the indicators - nothing.

I have tried the earths in the engine bay and they all check out, need to check the earths under the dash - Saturday job

Question - should I be able to test the items that are connected through the ignition switch without the starter, dynamo and dizzy not wired up.

Bob, I don't know what model Healey you have but I am looking at the schematic for a 100-6 and both wipers and the flasher lights get there power off the upper 35 amp fuse. For the flasher the power goes to the center/common terminal of the steering column first and the left or right signal is sent to the "Flasher/(BRAKE) Relay" on terminals '4' or '8'.
The "Turning Signal Flasher" (the little round thingy) also get it's own power source on a green wire from the SAME FUSE. Then the "L" terminal of the "little round thingy" has a green/brown wire on it that should go to # 1 terminal of the "flasher/brake" relay.
The wiper is also fed from the same 35 amp fuse. (one of the green wires). If you can reach the connection to the wipers you should have 12 volts at the wipers all the time because they are turned on by the switch grounding the ground path via the BG wire. (black/green).
The panel lights get their power from the small panel light switch which gets its power on the red wire directly from the Head light switch on the same terminal that has the red wire going to the running lights front and back. And the Head light switch gets it power from the brown/blue wire coming from the voltage regulator. I would check the connections at the 35 amp fuse first and the fuse itself. Hope this might help. Dave.

Thanks for that, I have a BJ7 - same diagram. I will be checking power at the fuse next. I tested and labelled up the new harness before it was installed and cut then away the old harness leaving tails at the switches etc, so I should not have messed that up with a double check as it were.

Well I have located the problem - the wiper motor is blowing fuses for a past time. Could be a number of things so will have to perform some further checks.
