Wires to bolt on's [wheels]

My B has wire wheels on it and i want to replace them with some alloys, i would love to keep the centre lock and use certre lock alloys but they are realy out of my price range, so need to convert to bolt on's, front is easy, i know how to do that but the rear? can the axle be modified, would like to keep the wire wheel axle as it is narrower so wider wheels won't rub on the wings. Thanks Andy

On later MGB's the wire wheel hubs can easily be replaced with steel wheel hubs. Not the case with the earlier banjo axles.

If you only replace the hubs on your wire rear end with rostyle hubs, your wheels will sit too far inside the wheelwell...unless you use 5/8" (or wider) spacers to push them back out....the easiest way is to swap the entire rear end with a rostyle rear.

I'm thinking that by the time you buy all the stuff to go to bolt-on, you'll probably be close to center-lock alloys price. IMHO, nothing looks better then a B in center-lock minilites! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yesnod.gif
