Here is a question I have, notice I did not say dumb question, why on wirer wheel installation aren’t all the wheels left had thread. It just seems to me that the left hand thread would tighten as I drive, but I understand the left goes on the driver side?
 
I expect most people would say that the wheels all turn in the same direction as the car rolls down the road... yet if you look you'll see that the wheels on the left side are rotating to the left and the wheels on the right side are rotating to the right.

Actually they are turning in the same direction, it is the observer who makes it appear otherwise as he rotates 180° when he looks at one side of the car and then the other.

The knock-offs tighten in the direction of a forward-rotating wheel.
 
Years ago my Father put a left ww adapter on the right side front, splines weren't the best. Later he hit the brakes the spinner unscrewed and wheel came off. They will unscrew themselves when splines are bad.

In much the same vein, I've seen instances of a wire wheel-equipped car being towed with rear end up in the air...and front wheels loosening as a result if the tow was more than a few miles. Not good. :(
 
I watched a wire wheel passe me in the tow truck. Amazingly, we found the knock off in the woods along side the road.
 
I have never owned a set until now. I remember back in the 70’s being in JC Penny's auto store and this guy with an MGB coughed up 800.00 to have his wire wheels fixed and that did not include the tires and the mechanic said kinda tongue and cheek about the 800 in that I wanted nothing to do with those, but I always wanted a set. Anyways I really like that article from the MG guru his stuff is also so intelligent that I cannot understand why he does not drive a Triumph.
