WIRE WHEELS

check the inside splines prior to any tuning. I learned this the hard way on my MGB, I bought used wire wheels to later find out the splines were shot so when I hit the brakes the wheels kept turning.

I went with Daytons on the TR6

Aloha,

Welcome to the forum. looks like you have a big project ahead of you. Based on the photos you have posted, you will need to replace those wire wheels on the car. I would wager most all of the spoke nipples are rusted to the wheel rim. If that is the case, tuninng is the wheel would be cost prohibitive (replacement spokes and nipples would cost more than a new wheel). You may also have difficulty removing the wheel from the car if the wheel hub has rusted to the splines. So.... either new wire spoke wheels (think about 60 spoke wheels as replacements) or minilites are items to add to your restoration plans.

I had a front wheel leave my '67 GT6 for that very reason. The car was only about a year old and had about 20,000 miles when it happened. But I did drive hard all the time.

Hey Cup,

Contact Allen Hendrix at Hendrix Wire Wheel here in Greenboro. He's probably one of the best in the country for wires. He sold me four dayton wheels and balanced them for less then TRF or Moss could sell me the wheels alone (this was 4 years ago though). He's a big healy guy so he's good to work with and understands the obsession.

They ship all over the world, so SC wouldn't be a problem.

NFI of course.

No beating the look that wires give:
