TR5/TR250 Wire wheels width

I recently purchased a TR250 which came with 4+1 72 spoke wire wheels and 4 x new 205/15 tires and 1 x used 165/15 tire (spare). I plan to replace all 5 with 185/15 redline tires. Question: is the width of the wheel important or will any 185/15 work? Thanks, DSD

Thanks Joel for the info. Though not clear on the message? Does this suggest my wheel rims are 6 inches wide and when replacing the 205's with the 185/15's, I should only put them on wheels that are 5 inches wide?

I don't believe that a 185/15 tire on a wire wheel will fit under the floor cover in the boot of the TR250. I suspect that is why the spare tire was a 165/15. BTW, rather than assuming your wheels are 6 inch because they have 205 tires I recommend that you actually measure the width of the wheels.

Thanks Bob for the heads-up. It's the only sure to know........ I've never been concerned with a wheel's width, but we're talking American and Swedish...and new, not a 53 year old British car!

When you measure your wheels, it’s the inside width and a lot of wheels have the size stamped on them.
