Wire Wheel Conversion - What am I Missing?

When converting to wires from disc wheels, from what I've read in these posts, the wheel studs must be shortened for clearence. But, are the original lug nuts used? They appear too thick to allow for the wheel to seat properly. Any thoughts?

The wire wheel adapter spline uses a shorter stud and a nut that is approx. half
the thickness and tapered on both sides.

Check out Bulletin T-64-23 in https://www.dctra.org/Files/Service_Manuals/1964bul.pdf This is for the TR4 but applies to all the "big TR" models.

And my apologies to "trguy" for editing his post. I honestly thought I was editing my own post (which is why I deleted my own soon after); I tend to forget the powers given me as Moderator of this forum. Sorry!

I have used the generic spacers for many years w/o issue:

I alternate between disc and wire wheels, hence want to keep the studs long.

Thickness is 6mm (about 1/4") do not use 9mm thickness as one commonly used reference book suggests. I can only assume that spec was a typo.

Like Geo, I like to be able to change back and forth. I got my spacers from Joe Alexander, I think he makes them for Moss. He also will list them on Ebay from time to time. His are solid alum and fit nice. Buy new lugs.

I've got to use my reading glasses more often as I overlooked the Moss listing for 2 different lug nuts. Duh! And thanks for the tip on the spacers. I, of course, have the 9mm a friend gave me. He had them on a MGB. The good news...another friend has a machine shop and is making new spacers of the correct / 1/4" thickness. Just one more itty bitty question? The new grease seals for the front bearings have a metal backing plate...which goes where? against the bearing or against the vertical link?

Thanks Andrew, just found an old thread that said the same thing, also said to put motor oil on felt. Thanks again everyone. Now if i can just sell my TR3B project car, maybe I can pay for the wire wheels.

One of our VTO wheels dealers, Dave Patton at Futo Fab which specializes in Datsun 510, and 240Zs, the Datsuns have the same 4x4.5", or 4x114.3mm bolt patterns as the big Triumphs and MGBs, so'll these will work on our cars, and are drilled to be the correct bolt pattern specific. Dave offers them 1/8", and 5/16" thickness. His website is www.futofab.com here's a picture of them.
