Wire wheel clean prior to paint

MG folks- I'd like to spray a fresh coat of paint on my wires before I get a new set of tires. By greasing the splines (over the years) I've got a lot of grease all over the spokes. They aren't rusty- I dont want to sand blast. Any suggestions on a good way to clean painted wires as prep for paint that wouldnt take weeks of tedious brushing? Thanks, Dave

is there some kind of acid dip around? maybe even a gas tank or rad shop?
