Does anyone know of product that I can put on a wire to insulate a bare section of the wire when the wire is still one piece connected on both ends? Kinda like shrink wrap or something, but I would need to able to wrap the wire not slide over the end. Perhaps some kind of liquid vinyl I could apply on the wire and then tape it?

Most hardware stores carry small tins of "Liquid Electrical Tape", two or three applictions should do the trick.

Your best bet would be to cut the wire to allow placement of shrink tube, solder the ends back together, and shrink the new insulator over the joint.

Interesting. I hadn't heard of the liquid electrical tape, but I'll keep an eye out for it. I'm a big fan of solder and heat-shrink tubing, so that's what I've always used.

Slit the shrink wrap and wrap it around the section of wire you want to cover, then heat it up. Or if the area is close enough to the connector, get some shrink wrap just large enough to slip over the connector and slide it into position; it should shrink enough to seal the wire if you heat it slowly.

Self-vulcanizing tape might help.

In general, consider where the repair is... does it get hot or wet, is it a critical wire that would cause your car to self-implode if it failed (so I exaggerate a little... ), etc.
