I have a B with single (slow!!!) speed wipersand want them to go faster, i know that the later cars had duel speed and was wondering if the second speed is faster then the single speed one's or is the first of the two slower? and is there and other motors that will fitor mods that can bge done to further increase the speed, thanks Andy

Andy, What year is your "B"? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif PJ

You may want to try cleaning the 40 year old grease from the wiper gear and rack. I did this on my 67 B and replaced it with synthetic. The speed improved considerably. Changing to a dual speed could be done if you are good at wiring.

Mine's a two speed: Slow and off.

~RAIN-X~ rulez!!!!

If you drive fast enough the rain blows right off /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I haven't driven a B in the rain since the early 80's but I remember those things going pretty fast whenever a semi came by and covered me in a sheet of muddy water, so I guess the later B's have a few speeds?

THe early wipers are adequate if in good order. Problem is that they rarely fail so they rarely get any sort of attention. The wiper motor in my '65 B has not been touched since installed at the factory. Remove the motor and give it a good cleaning, service as necessary and clean all contacts. Check the wiring and voltage to the motor as well. Even a grimey windshield or old wiper blades can slow the system down through friction.

They will never work as well as a modern wiper assembly but they will keep your MGB windshield clear of water.

Go'ya beet Doc, Three speed here - Slow, slower & off. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

hah.... I got a switch that says I have slow, slower, and stop, but my wipers only opperate at slow and stop.... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

hehehehe... My Alfa the wipers don't work yet, and I used rainX on the outside, and Rainx - antifog on the inside. I have yet to drive it in rain, but I'm not sure the leaned back windscreen will work as well as the MGB's nearly vertical one.

Ive been in hard rain with the MGB and drove for iles without turning the wipers on. No rainX even. The angle of the winshield seems very suitable to keep water from blocking your vision.

Tiawan counterfeits.

clean the rack, clean the motor, new wiper blades, RainX. Simpler than conversion. I've wondered about relays but not sure about putting more juice to the motor.

The motor won't get "more juice" with a relay, just the amount it's asking for. Plus you'll save that expensive column switch a few more years.
