Wipers slowed then stopped. Any thoughts?

Hello all,

This site is great! Quick troubleshooting question. . . . last time I had the sprite in the rain the wipers worked great for about 5 minutes, then slowed, and eventually stopped. After about 10 minutes they worked again but slowed down again. The wiring harness is new and the wipers have worked very well for several hours on previous trips. Any thoughts on common causes, or tips on what to lubricate? I trust the collective experience if this group will save me lots of time and reduce the number of head bangs while crawling around under the bonnet!

Thanks,
Craig

Also, other electircal stuff like headlights, heater, dash lights etc worked fine at the time. . . .the car has negative ground with alternator.

Have the wheels boxes ever been cleaned and regreased?

Well, I don't think there's any mystery as to where the problem is. Should be easy to figure out.

I'd make sure you're getting full voltage at the motor, just because it's easy to check. I'd bet even money that's fine, but the inside is gunked up (sorry for the highly technical terminology). Every 50 years or so, the mechanism should be cleaned up and regreased, whether it needs it or not....

He he I like that PM Time 50 years or so Thats right up mt alley.
I'll bet the grease in the wheel boxes if it has not been PM ed according to the 50 schedule is simular to a wax candle and pretty resistant to moving.
