Wipers and Heaters...

I got caught driving home in the rain the other night on HWY 17, which as anyone who has driven it knows, is a road you want to see your way on. My wipers were doing a very ineffective job and seemed to get stuck into a very narrow angled sweep and when they did do a wider sweep seemed to skip some spots. So my question, before I approach any repairs/modifications, is this: are you finding your stock wipers effective, and if not, what did you do to make them so?
And on a similar note, I've never known my heater to be all that effective. I hear my fan run, but don't feel any strong stream of air. When a TR6 heater runs at full potential, does it put out a lot of heat, or is it more of just a gesture?
Thanks for your feedback.

'71 have a squirrel cage fan or blades?
If the squirrel cage is wired backwards, it will work, but not very well.
Did you ever do any polarity swapping on the chassis?

Is you heater tap (valve) opening all the way, and clean?
All sorts of crap builds up in them.

On older cars, every couple of years I remove the heater hoses (both) on engine side of firewall, and flush with a garden hose and sparay nozzle.
Back and forth until it runs clean.
Lots of stuff settles out in those cores.

Last, you have the scuttle vent open?

On my LBC, you get NO heat unless it is open.

Counter-intuitive, but make sure.

A TR6 heater will practically burn your feet off at the highest setting. In order to get maximum heat output you must first close the dash vents and the under dash vents. Those vents only supply outside fresh air into the cabin. With them closed all of the air flow from the scuttle vent is forced over the heater core and out the bottom of the heater box. Under these conditions you will now see the full potential of your heater.

Mine blows plenty of very HOT air to keep me warm no matter what the temp........well into the 20's anyway for those rare winter days we go for a ride. All 4 eyeball vents must be closed and the heater control valve fully operational. I installed this way better heater valve last year. I've also disassembled my heater, had the core professionally cleaned/tested and cleaned everything up.

Thanks all for the information. Bobby, I'm intrigued by that valve. I have a replacement that I got from one of the big three or BPNW, but it sticks really bad, so I may have to try that new model out. Thanks again everyone.
