Wiper Motor - the saga begins

well, we are in the home stretch for the electrics. Only signal lights and a couple of dash lights and I'm good to go. Managed to get the faintest movement out of the wiper motor. (had already checked for current which was good)

took the motor apart and discovered three things.

1. when you take the windings out of the magnets and the "can" there is a ball bearing that the shaft rotates on at the top. I didn't realize this and had previously reassembled without it back in place. As I was staring at the hole and trying to figure out what was missing, I had the inspiration to feel along the top edge of the magnets. Sure enough the ball bearing was still there - the wonders of magnetism.

2. The bushes are shot. I'll post a little later where to get the replacements since Moss doesn't appear to have them.

3. The grease needs replacing even though it moves rather freely. does anyone know how to remove the big gear?

will keep you posted

Sorry John no clue on gear removal.

To remove the large gear in the wiper motor there is a Circlip that has to be removed (found on the back side of the gear shaft).

Funny, I've never had much trouble taking stuff apart... it's getting it all back together (without having any parts left over!) that usually causes problems.

glad you're not a surgeon  BTW it's the brushes that are shot not the bushes. went to one place today but they had nothing small enough. will look some more tomorrow
