Wiper blade assembly removal???

Okay, so here's a dumb question and I saw it on a previous post but without resolution.

Just how does one remove the wiper blade assembly piece from the wiper arm? There's a clip on the back of the assembly that I push down on and it comes to the edge of the button on the wiper arm but I can't get it to slide any further without the risk of breaking it. Is there a trick to this??? One of the manuals (Haynes/Chilton's) says to disengage the assembly from the wiper arm but doens't say how to do this.

Well, duh...guess I could have said it's off of a 79 B...didn't know if it would matter.

Sometimes the blade assembly sticks a little bit on the burred edge of a wiper arm...a little pressure will let it slip off...go ahead and pull. A drop of oil will help, but needs to be cleaned up, so pull the arm off and do it on the bench. You can see better and get a better angle that way without pulling against the tension spring too.

Put a drop of oil on there to help things along and I still can't get the assembly off the wiper arm..AGHHH!!! Do you just have to hold your mouth right and hope it doesn't break?
 
This may sound stupid but I did it once. If you are in the US most of the chain auto part stores will replace them for you free if you buy the wiper blades. I took mine in (off another type of car) and bought the blades. They showed me how to disassemble the arm.

yes, it work best if you hold it up infront of yourself, so that when it slips off, it pokes you in the face...in the eye, if you are really lucky /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Seriously, after going out into the garage and reading your original post, it is that easy, except you said you were pushing down the tab...not sure what that means, but the tab must be moved AWAY from the arm to disengage...maybe that is it?

I also unhooked two of mine right now...the one slid right off and back on...the other took some real effort and a lot of wiggling to come off.

HI I got new wipers and then could not get the old ones off.
I found if I bent the two small tabs across from each other on the back of the assembly <font color="red"> </font> out <font color="black"> </font> and then pull the long tab up the wiper came off. Hope this makes sense to you and helps
 
Okay, I'm going to give it a go again with this thing!

Maybe I should be lifting the tab up like you say, Bruce...or at least not pushing down. I tried again yesterday and just got frustrated with the dang thing. If I needed new blades I would just take the wiper arms in to a parts place and get them replaced, but they are new as of six months ago.

Well, FINALLY!!!! I just took the small flatblade on my Swiss Army knife and gently lifted the tab and was able to pull the blade assembly off...WHEW!

By the way, I assume they are all the same; i.e., no right, left, or middle wiper arm? They marked them at the body shop but I really think they're the same.
