Re: Winter ~STILL~ sucks

Show-off.

Re: Winter ~STILL~ sucks

Uh, 18.

Re: Winter ~STILL~ sucks

AND?!?!?

:smirk:

Re: Winter ~STILL~ sucks

Playing golf is like working on your car. You talk about the good things that happen and treat any mistakes as a "learning experience" and remain quiet about those.

Doc, the two things that I do use a lot are my grilles. They are older Weber Genesis gas units that I've rebuilt at least once and many times during the summer and fall, both will be going at once.

Paul,

Good choice! We have one of the older ones on our deck as well and love it.

We only got 8 1/2 inches here yesterday which gave me a chance to try out the Toro Power Shovel that my wife gave me for Christmas. Actually worked great on the driveway and sidewalk! Course it's not heavy duty enough to clear the stuff the snow plows push in front of the driveway but it saved me a lot of effort and backache!

Re: Winter ~STILL~ sucks

Geography matters, doesn't it, Scott? Staunton is only about 40 miles west of Charlottesville and you got 7", we got about 2".

BTW, you missed a great tech session held by the Shenandoah Valley Brit car club last Saturday. At Gassman automotive, all the cool projects they're working on, some amazing cars.

Cheers, Scott, maybe we'll see you at one of the spring shows.

Re: Winter ~STILL~ sucks

Mark,

The mountains were a clear dividing line on this storm! Luckily, I decided to work from home due to what they were calling for (gotta love VPN) and for once they were accurate.

I haven't been to Mike's place since he started the business. I really need to get by there some time. In our younger days, we hung out together a lot and I believe we actually met at one of the SVBCC rallies. He had a beautiful 1969 TR6 and I was working on my TR4A.

Re: Winter ~STILL~ sucks

*is crying right now*

I got home from celebrating my birthday today to find this.

The only reason the wedge is in the shelter logic pop garage is because i needed both bays of the real garage for the TR6 restoration in progress. I would go out and knock the snow off the roof after each storm when i shovel my driveway, there wasnt a whole ton on the roof, but it looks like the metal joints came undone, cumulative damage from all the storms or whatnot.

I was just out there a couple days ago to take the plates off too, the DMV had just notified me that my vanity plates "WEDGE" for the tr7 were ready to be picked up.

*cries some more*

Re: Winter ~STILL~ sucks

Justin,

Man, sorry to see that. :frown:

Is that one of the support rods coming through the windshield?

Scott

Re: Winter ~STILL~ sucks

yes, it's one of the roof support rods smashed through the windshield, and smashing the dash as well. This TR7 was in as good condition as an original survivor could possibly be, 100% original and with only 27k miles Now i'm going to need at a minimum a new windshield and dashboard fascia assuming that's the only damage, and I need to figure out how to keep it from getting more damaged, as right now there is no way to get it OUT of that collapsed garage unless a hoard of you want to visit my house and have a shoveling party, as that garage is totally snowed in, and all the snow banks from my driveway being cleared all winter are in the way of digging it out

Re: Winter ~STILL~ sucks

I have been crabbing about the "unfair" amount of snow you eastern folks have been getting, but I'll stop whining about that now.

We've got premium snowmobile conditions right out of my back yard and have been sliding out for a blast on the sled almost daily...

By the looks of Justin's 7 you can get too much of a good thing -ouch!

To be honest those are called summer shelters around here and aren't recommended for year round duty, now I undertand why.

Have you been able to use a rake / shovel / broom or whatever to (carefully) get the rest of that weight off? Rain or mild conditions will pull the rest down in a hurry.

Re: Winter ~STILL~ sucks

All the weight is off , and i took out the crossbeams from the ceiling so there's nothing more to come down on it. There wasnt that much weight of snow on top of it when it came down either, i kept it mostly clear, every time i shoveled the driveway down to the garage i'd go inside the carport garage and hit the roof from the inside to make the snow slide off the sides. I guess it was cumulative damage from the snowfalls, bending it bit by bit, and stressing it, because when it went, it just brought down a whole bunch of it. I wonder if I'm better off tearing down the rest of the garage and just leaving the car 'in the yard' covered with it's car cover and a few tarps till I can get it towed for repair =(

Insurance adjuster is coming tomorrow. I just hope they dont try to screw me too much, I know what it needs, but they'll probably just say "new windshield and you're good to go" but it needs a new windshield + seals, new dashboard fascia, new windshield bottom metal trim thing in front (dont know the name, and it's not an available repro part), and then I'm not sure if there any work to be done on the roof, because the passenger side door isn't opening and closing smooth anymore, so something is warped somewhere.

After the adjuster comes and low-balls all the work and parts, I think I'll be giving Woody over at the Wedge Shop a call, he did all the work on it for the previous owner, so he knows exactly what it'll need.

I'm still so upset right now =(

Re: Winter ~STILL~ sucks

Don't sign any release until Woody agrees with the repairs that they allow. If you can get him before the adjuster comes, it might be better.

Re: Winter ~STILL~ sucks

Hi Folks,

I hate to be the bearer of "Bad News" but You Folks up in the NE are going to get another "Pre-Spring" Winter blast in a day or so!

MSN is saying that You Folks may get up to "1 inch" of "ICE"! Man, That ain`t any fun at all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I guess you already know that!

Sorry about that!

Russ

PS: Living in the "Pocono Mtns of PA" about a 1-1/2yrs ago; I feel for you Folks!!

Re: Winter ~STILL~ sucks

As Brosky suggested, the key will be not to rush thru the insurance process.

Hardtop wedges are pretty solid machines, but if the roof is twisted, Liberty may lean towards writing the car off rather than tackle fixing the structure.

I'm not familiar with the process there, but a write off could be a nice option: in this neck of the woods you can buy back the written off car, so you can get a cheque, (net salvage) and repair the car on your own terms.

Get the car to the best bodyshop in the area and get them to make sure the machine is square.

Re: Winter ~STILL~ sucks

keep a happy thought :frown:

Re: Winter ~STILL~ sucks

I'm trying, Steve, I'm really trying.

I have no way to get the car to Woody for quite some time unless my insurance is willing to pay for a back-loader to come and shovel out the snow in my yard for a tow-truck to get down. When I put it up for the winter, I really put it up for the whole winter, with no provisions to get it out any sooner than when the snow is all gone. I only ever keep half my driveway cleared down to the garage in the winter, and all the shoveled snow goes into snowbanks on the other side of the driveway.

what you cant tell from the perspective in this photo is that the snowbank on the near side of the driveway is about five feet deep, the wedge is in the carport beside the garage. And the only reason it's there is I needed both sides of the garage for the TR6 resto work. *sigh*

Re: Winter ~STILL~ sucks

This was a few years ago when I used my Spitfire as a daily driver to high school. This picture was taken in November when we had a surprise snow shower. I hate not having heat.

Re: Winter ~STILL~ sucks

But you had a hardtop!! That should have helped to keep you cozy.

Re: Winter ~STILL~ sucks

True, I did. It's a fiberglass hard top. When I got it, it had no weather proofing so I had to get/make my own. Some of it was falling off by the end of that year so I had some leaks =]
