Winter projects: carb and dizzy rebuild

I'm a fan of the SU -- seems such a simple thing to adjust and dial in. I've never really worked on anything else; the Bing carbs on the old BMW motorcycle I used to have were really very similar.

When I was first going to shows and getting familiar with British cars I always liked the look of the twin SUs under the bonnet. Just seemed so exotic somehow.

Besides, Doc, if the SUs can work here in the mountains, they should be plenty for y'all down at the water line. Can't imagine there's much elevation gain down there.

Distributor back

Jeff at Advanced Distributor did his magic as usual, and I now have a nicely rebuilt distributor for the MGB. Got new coil (sorry, Doc, it's a Bosch) and plug wires. In the end I did decide to go back to points, so we're back to factory stock here. Boy, it looks nice and clean. Won't go back in for a while, too dern cold here (high today is predicted at 21*f, lows have been below zero).

Hap's got my carbs now, so those will be rebuilt and ready for the summer's driving.

No apology needed, Drew! All my Alfas have had Bosch bits! Even retro-fitted a Bosch points type dizzy in the Spider I'm pedalin' daily! The Marelli dual-point thing would lie down in a heavy fog, nevermind all the added "water features" our monsoon season would deliver here.

Got my interior parts in today, so now I've got new interior panels, radiator hoses, and a clutch line. Will have to tackle the door disassembly now, though it has to get substantially warmer first. Will be nice to get rid of the old cut-up panels, and to now have the correct panels.

Lots to do this spring!

Great project Drew, When you get bored with it, in about five years, it should be almost perfect. Give me an email then. Bob

You never know... I explained to my family once that I never planned to have only one car. Can't afford them all at once, so I do it one at a time.

With this car, I am being a bit more restrained with the work, just doing a few things every spring rather than tearing the car completely apart for years on end.
