Been working on my (very long) list of parts and projects for working over the winter. List is long and $$$.
One of my jobs is to replace the alternator, I've heard of some using an 80, maybe a GM?
Can anyone please give me some insight on what is involved with a different alternator, such as mounting, # of wires, need a different size belt etc?
What other alternator is recommended?

Hi Barry,

Is much needed in the way of modification? I'm not putting a lucas alt on, can't handle power requirements.

Ah, priceless.
I've been hunting this morning but didn't come across this one, I can butcher a bracket and make it fit.
Cheers. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif

I just got my winter project (for the next two winters). It is a 1958 Sprite with the back off of a '59 (I think). It goes well with my '70 Midget with the rear off of a '72 (hence a RWA '70). It is a project. I plan on patching the rust and sorting it out well enough to drive by June of next year. Then I'll disassemble it (again) for the final body work in the fall of '07. Then in the summer of '08, it should be back together again and on the road!

Do we get to see a pic of this masterpeice?

My heat of the summer swap to a sc motor has become a winter project, but I've started to do some of those things I thought I'd do just to get them done now while I've got the time and attention of detail. I want to neat up my engine compartment, so when that time comes that will be my focus point.
