WinSU

Hi All,

Just downloaded the software app WinSU. Loaded it and am really impressed with it. Problem is WinSU does not have the ability to calculate recommended needles for engines over 1400 (approx) cc's, so it can't provide recommendations for B engines.

I contacted the author before registering the program to see if the registered version had this ability and received a No answer.

Anyone know of a similar program that allows for larger engine displacement?

Thanks and

Hi John,
I just downloaded it and also have the old haystack program. Do you know what more WinSU could do if I were to register mine? It seems like nothing, actually. Another shortcoming of WinSU is that when you compare a needle to another, it goes through all of them without regard to whether they're .090 needles or .100 needles - easily fixed by checking along with an SU needle chart. Yet another problem is with the needle recommendation feature. It doesn't have any provision for a twin carb engine. I put in the specs closest to the Midget engine I'll be building one of these days and it ended up recommending an HS6 w/ an ??? needle. No help to me since I'll be using 2 HS2s. Any ideas on if registering will fix this? The needle comparison charts are very handy.

whoops, posted a little quickly. Don't know of any programs, but one way to get started on needle selection is to look at the charts in an SU manual. Look for an application that has an engine capacity closect to yours, and same number and size of carbs to see what needles they use. I have a manual with the charts, if you need them let me know and I can scan and send them to you.

Unless I'm missing something, WinSU does not appear to be of use for those with twin carbs or engines above 1400cc's. It appears to be a pretty neat program, just not complete enough for my use.

Registration turns on a couple of options (can't remember which ones), but makes no difference re: engine displacement, etc.

WinSU is a computer program that assists in selecting the best SU needle match for your engine configuration. The problem I (and others) seem to be having is that there are limitations on engine displacement, # of carbs on your car, etc.
