Winshield mounting bolt

Anyone know what size the bolts holding down the w/s frame on behind the glove cmpt are? Noticed mine are missing when I tried to tighten down the canvas top. Does it need a nut plate or something, since I can't feel any threads in the actual bracket.
Thanks...KB

The MGb windshield frame is tapped for a 3/8 course bolt and the flat washers are cut to clear the body at the top bolt. Probably 1-1/4 inch long and Threads go all the way with no shoulder on the bolt. This can be one of the nastiest jobs on a B. Bob

Got one bolt in last night before it got dark. The other 3 are waiting for me to finish today.

Next visit to the pick your part wrecking yard take some GM body attaching screws. They have a nice tapered lead in that makes it easier to start.

Regulars have heard it from me too often, but: I'd rather do THREE clutch replacements than ONE windscreen on a B.

My problem is my big mitt. If I canfind a 3XL glove, I buy it! The first time I removed and replaced the windscreen, I was tempted to remove the dash but with a couple of old tricks and extensions I minimized the contortions, Oh yes and my freind who's hand is normal started a couple of the more difficult fasteners. That all of course, deserved a Guiness or two!

Re: Windshield mounting bolt

Hi,
Thanks for the reply on the windshield mounting bolt. There is a "packing plate" in the Victoria British MGB catalog: (<span style="text-decoration: underline">https://www.victoriabritish.com/icatalog/mg/full.aspx?Page=51</span>), item #25, part #12-849). Do you know if this is a nut plate for the bolt, because I cannot feel any threads in the hole? Do you know how hard it is to take off and replace the passenger side fender to access this?
Thanks again....KB

Re: Windshield mounting bolt

Are ya ~sure~ the threaded "receiver" hasn't just slipped out of position? It'd be awfully hard for it to just disappear from the body. It's HUGE.

Re: Windshield mounting bolt

I have always used a center punch to locate the bottom hole in the leg of the frame, then with the center punch in place, have had someone (other name for wife) rock the windshield back and forth while I locate the upper hole with the bolt and get it threaded in finger tight, remove the center punch and get the bottom bolt started. Repeat the procedure for the other side, then get everything situated correctly and tighten the bolts. the last time I did this, I got smart and removed the covers on the outside so I could see what was going on - almost made the job tolerable - almost!
Cheers,
