Thank you to all who answered my 'keeping the heat out of the cab'. Next question ! How to keep the wipers in contact with the screen when in use. I use 'Rain Off'with some success but that could not handle a recent downpour. The wipers float off the screen at any reasonable speed ( must admit they look a bit silly flapping in the wind). I was fortunate this time being able to pull off the road but would hate it to happen on the freeway. Bending the arms is of course an option. Is it the only one?
 
Hi John, I have never experienced that problem .Fortunately, I have never been caught in a real down pour for any length of time. However, I might suggest that the springs in the arms may have weakened over the years and need to be replaced.---Fwiw--Keoke
 
As Keoke said, maybe you need to find some wiper arms with more spring tension. Old springs can get pretty weak in 40 years. Bending the arms will give very little improvement.

When you get new wiper arms from Moss, they come with new springs. I never had a wiper "lift off " at any speed.

Well it was the springs tho. when I removed them I was suprised how strong they were. It appears that the problem was not their strength but length. When the backside of blades were viewed thro. the windscreen (from the drvers side) it was apparent that the springs were in their 'relaxed'mode i.e. no apparent load was being applied to the blades as the springs were not under any extension. Rather than shorten them I added a home made spring to each blade . Seems to do the trick but have to await the next downpour. Not exactly a 'high tech'problem or solution but may interest someone.
