Windshield Wiper Gearbox Grease

What is the best grease to use in the windshield wiper gearbox? It had a whitish yellow grease in it. The car is a 1955 BN-1. I dont think they had lithium grease back then? Last summer the car was outside (It was Hot!) and it leaked what looked like honey onto the carpet! What a mess that was.
Thank you!

I used a product called Lubriplate. It is a fairly lightweight grease that does not tend to liquify. It will eventually dry out as do many greases. Someting you might try is the blue grease thay use for boat trailer wheel bearings. It seems to hold up pretty well. Obviously you do not want anything that gets really thick in cold temperatures. Do not over pack the gears, and do check it every couple of years even if it is working smoothly. I'm sure there are other opinions out there.

Another all around good grease is Lucas Red Grease. Hi tack, so it will stay where you want it. Should be good against wash out. Good for wheel bearings, etc.
Available at many auto parts stores.
