Windshield seal

I just had a local glass shop install my windshield in its frame with a new seal. I didn't have them do the bottom seal where it meets the car. I thought that it would just slide into place. Wrong! What would be a safe lube to use to slide that strip into place? I don't think that oil would be a good choice.

some people say dish detergent, but, the best is supposed to be KY jelly (get the scented, it will be an air-freshener later.) OK I made the last part up

I don't like soap as it's corrosive. The seal does absorb the KY, so use allot of it.

I don't expect to be in KentuckY soon but maybe my local import store can supply it. LOL I was hoping I'd have something in my workshop but your suggestion does have merit.

I used soap numerous times before with no oxidation problems. I just did my windshield to body seal. I dipped my finger in dish soap and coated the first inch. I then dipped my finger in water and ran it the length of the seal. The seal slipped in nicely. You may also want to use some of the Si grease they sell in plumbing supplies. It will not hurt the rubber or frame. I tried the KY before, but I found out it dries out too quickly to be very helpful.

I know I'm going to pay dearly for this BUT.....
After having done many with soap, ky, etc, one thing
works better than all the rest....feminine lubricant.
Really, I can't make this up....

Astroglide FTW!!

I knew y'all would have fun with this.
But I'm telling you, NOTHING works better.
Noncorrosive (painful just thinking about that), lasts
a long time (a few of us need that....your wives know best),
easy clean-up (spouse will clean up for you if you do
a REALLY good job...it's nice to be appreciated), and readily
available at local drug store (yea, just TRY getting the clerk
to believe it's for your windshield).

This hint was passed on to me from another member.
I've probably done a dozen windshields, and this is the only
stuff I'll use for the seal install.

As always, your mileage may vary...

Paul
