windshield seal question

I bought new seals for the sides of the windshield that goes between it and the doors. The rubber is too narrow for the channel that it slides in. I got this from a Moss distributor and told them the year and picked the seal for a 71 and the seals had that part number on them. I heard there might be a mod that is required. Anyone know about this?
