Someone please tell me that the seal between the windshield and the body is easily removed by prying the old 40 year old seal out and pressing a new one into place. Or do you have to take the windshield apart?

No need to take the windshield apart. Do you have one of those plastic orange peelers?

What is the trick with the orange peeler. This is a job coming up for me in the next month or so. I've got a spare windshield with better glass in it than the one currently on Bugsy. Windshield seal was ordered years ago and has been sitting on the shelf. Maybe need to get out and unfold it to let it take on the correct shape / flat well in advance of the time I need it. Cold. cold garage won't let it lay flat. Need to bring inside for a while.
 
The peeler makes it easier to press the other lip into place without damaging it. It'll be obvious when you start. Any dull tool should work, but when digging through the kitchen drawer (the first time I replaced the seal) I discovered the peeler. The second time I couldn't find it and tried various other things, but ended up going to the grocery and getting another peeler (and an orange while I was there).
