Windshield packing pieces for BJ7-8

I was ready to install the windshield and noticed the packing piece in the parts book. This is the piece that goes between the foot of the pillar and the chassis where the mounting bolts are. I don't recall my car having these (and the book says 'AR -As Required') but I do have a gap on both sides when holding the windshield assembly in position. Anybody else not have them on their BJ7/BJ8? How thick are they? Is it zinc plated steel? Does the outside shape follow the foot of the pillar exactly?

Cheers,
John

John,
My 64 BJ8 has 4 aluminum shims. Each shim is made from 1/16" thick plate and is the same shape as the bottom section of the windshield post that bolts to the body. The shims have the four holes same as the post. They would be easy to make and you could make as many as you need. Hope this helps and have a good day!

John ... thanks for the info. These will be easy to make up A/R. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Anthony ... I didn't think of looking in the Moss catalog. At $30/set I will roll my own and have some extra beer money for when you guys drop by! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thirsty.gif

Cheers,
John

john,im glad you asked this question,as im doing the pass.vent window seal and noticed its frame did not fit against the windshield post correctly, addig shims will vastly improve the fit,as you said shouldnt be difficult to make some up thanks, hay have a cold one on me. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif

I made 4 out of aluminum also. Can’t remember if they were .050” or .063”. I made them a little smaller than the windshield bracket and drilled larger holes so I could wiggle things around if needed.

I ended up cutting them out of some .063" 5020 aluminum that I had. A friend came by for a beer and I put him to work and the windshield is now installed (great to get it out of my office finally!).
