Windshield glass replacement

I have a new glass for the "A". When I put the frame together, it appears that the screws that go throught he tapping plates on each side protrude past the plates approx. 1/8 to 3/16". I fear that if I install the glass the screws may break something.I am also having trouble getting the glass to go into the frame because there does not appear to be enough room for the weatherstrip and the glass to go into the frame. Any and all suggestions, tips, curse words, etc. will be greatly appreciated.

On my TD that just got new glass, the instructions with the nut/bolt kit said to test fit everything without the glass & cut the ends of the bolts so they barely protrude through the metal...when you do, use a nut so that after you cut them off, you can take the nut off the bolt, cleaning the threads

I just last week replaced the windsheild in my A... I bought the mounting hardware kit from MOSSS and all of the bolts, nuts, and washers fit perfectly...

However,

I bought the glazing strip from Moss recommended for the thinner windshield... It was too thick...

RECOMMENDATION -- for less than $100 a good Auto glass shop will do the deed for you. I gave mine to a shop that provided the correct glazing rubber and installed the frame around the windshield... All I did was pick it up, pretty as a picture and ready to mount, which I did.... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/banana.gif

No muss, no fuss.... there are many other things on the car that I would rather spend my time on. Using the services of a shop that knows their business is, for me, a no brainer.. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cheers.gif

I should mention that I fought with the installation for about 3 hours before I gave up and sent it out... one of the few things that was jobbed out on my A... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

I fought with my TD windshield build for about 7 hours including assmebly without glass, disassembly & reassembly....then, installation onto car took about half hour!

Once I pickup up my windsheild and frame I installed it, like you, in 30 minutes... then on to other schtuff.. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

If the screws stick out enough to put pressure on the glass when tight, you need to shorten them. Over time it will crack the glass. Remember that the corner brackets float around a bit by design, so you may have some fudge room on those.

There are two different glazing seals sold. You may simply have the wrong one.
