Windshield and Dash Change?

Hi

Im wondering how hard is it to swap out the dash and Windshield. I would like to change my 1969 dash to a 1968
i just prefer the look of the 68 dash and since i need to replace the windscreen anyway...
i guess im asking is this a over the weekend project or a Little more involved than that?

Thanks Ray

The 1968 was also a pillow dash...I'm guessing that you want to go to an earlier steel dash.

Yes...it's more than a weekend job...as the cowl would need to be re-worked. There is a thread over on the MGB Experience right now that outlines a lot of the "necessities".

Have you considered stripping the padding off of a pillow dash and painting it?...Will give you the same effect (albeit sans glove box)...and a lot less headaches.

FWIW - YOMV

i havent thought of that thanks for the idea, but if this is going to be a pain in the butt i might just replace the windscreen and clean up the dash i have

thanks for the idea

...and oh, by the way, windshield replacement is a pretty hefty job in itself. Sigh...

I've said before I'd rather do three MGB clutch replacements than one windshield. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

It's entirely do-able but takes three arms, stout nerves, tons of patience and lots of good strong cord.

...did I mention patience and nerve?

the windshield would be a replacement of the frame with the windshield already installed. the winshield and dash would be from the same donor car. i was hoping that since i need to remove the dash to replace the windshield and i like the steel dash so much better i could have just bolted the new dash inplace after reinstalling the windshield but after looking at the MGexperance page i now relize that the dash swap is a lot more involved that a simple remove and replace

sign maybe in the future after i learn to weld

thanks for all the info
