TR2/3/3A Windscreen stanchion mounting question

Afternoon all, my car is a post 60000 series and has a different stanchion mounting system than the early pre-60000 cars. Two bolts to the body for each stanchion is what I have. In the Moss catalog I see no listing for a Packing or Gasket for the mounting. Am I missing something? I would think that there should be some sort of gasketing to protect the body finish at that point.

As always, your thoughts and suggestions greatly appreciated.

Well, it depends on which post 60k stanchions that you have. I've run across three different types. I believe at least one of the types required a thin spacer between the body and the stanchions, while others didn't. As far as I know, there weren't any gaskets on any of them. My stanchions did not require any spacers, but I did make a gasket for each side just to protect the body finish.

Here are the different stanchions that I've run across. The one on the left is the Dzus fastener one. The other three are post 60k. Notice that the second one from the left appears to be of the same casting as the Dzus fastener one, but it hasn't been machined like for the Dzus bracket. That's probably the one that requires the spacers. The last two are different castings altogether.

No, unfortunately that change (along with several others of that period) were a production cost reduction revision. Certainly nothing to extend the longevity of the finish. They eliminated the use and cost of the more expensive Dsus fasterners although the bigger bolts obviously cost a few cents more than the smaller locating ones on the earlier version. And of course that early assembly install would save the finish below. The stanchion guide plate (parts book name) if you compare the early and late versions must have been twice the cost. But I too often wondered how they did the later assembly on the line, as it would seem virtually impossible to slide it into place every time without risking serious damage to the finish and primer below. Maybe they gooped it up with heavy wax and hoped for the best. Had thought years ago about milling enough off to allow for gasket material, but decided against it because of the curved surface.

My 60 TR 3 project has windshield shanchions that look just like the one on the left and I have the sliding plates but mine do not have dzus fasteners. There are two blind nuts per side welded on the body and it has two large round head chromed bolts that attach the stanchions to the body. I don't know why there are sliding plates as they are not attached to the body separate from the stanchions. I also have an aluminum windshield frame so mine may odd.
