Windscreen interior trim quality question

My windscreen on a TR6 needs refinishing. I am contemplating reconditioning or replacing the black 'plastic' trim covering the interior of the windscreen. Comments on the quality of replacement and ease of fitting of the panels from various vendors would be appreciated.

Hi Ray.
I refinished my windscreen frame several years ago. After cleaning it throughly, I primed it with a quality primer then I sprayed it with Krylon Semi-Flat Black spray paint from a rattle can. You can buy it anywhere they sell Krylon (Walmart, etc.) Krylon is a superior quality spray paint and the Semi-Flat Black is the perfect color and shine for the frame as well as the rear Kamm back of the car. Have no problems with it holding up and is easily touched up from bugs, etc.

Now, the vinyl trim kit that I used is from TRF. It takes a lot of patience to apply it, I used the 3M yellow tube adhesive, but the finished product is excellent. Looks as good or better than factory. Take your time. A good weekend project at best. Not sure who makes that particular trim kit, maybe all vendors use the same one. I have had good luck with most of the products from The Roadster Factory.

Good enough??

Hi Bill,

Is that the hard plastic inside trim kit you used?

I ask because I've got a set I've thought about using on my TR4. Don't know how it compares to what was originally fitted though, it was long gone when I bought the car in the 1970s. I made my own out of vinyl and that was on the car for many years, but needs replacement.

Maybe someone knows... I suspect TR4 winshield frames were originally fitted with a glued on, flexible vinyl of some sort (exterior is body color, unlike TR6). Was the TR4 vinyl black or did it match the rest of the interior? (I know all TR4 dash pads and plinths were black, no matter what color the rest of the interior was).

TIA

Bill,
Yep. Good enough.

thanks

Ray

Geez Alan, I don't remember if it was hard, per se. I do know that it was moulded to fit each section. It was thin vinyl, black in color. Looks nice.
