Finally got the glass in the windscreen frame and attempted to install in the "A". The frame sets about i/8 to 1/4" higher on the drivers side than the passenger side. The rubber grommet on the drivers side seems to be compressed more than the passenger side, still it sits higher on that side. Is there some sort of adjustment that I might make that will allow the frame to sit even?

All suggestions appreciated.

Ray,

Could you post a couple of pictures of the Frame as it sits on the body... THis is a strange one and a photo might help in figuring it out.

I installed my A's windscreen (after the glass was replaced) with narry a glitch.... Hummmm....????? /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/rolleyes.gif
 
What type of glass are you using? Did you clean out all the old rubber before installing the new stuff? Are the screws back in the same holes as before? Did you bend the L-bracket?
 
Steve, Am using a Brit Vicki glass that fit perfectly. The frame channels were all cleaned, none of the L-brackets were bent, they are new. The 45 degree angles in the corners are perfect. For some reason, it appears that the drivers side upright support does not go down enough to allow the bottom of the frame to sit on the body. The passenger side of the frame fits perfectly.

Are you saying that you're re-using the old glass and that it fit perfectly before? Something has changed. Did you have the frame re-chromed? If so, that could be part of the problem. Sometimes the new chrome will be too thick and not allow things to settle into place. Make sure you're using the proper thickness glazing rubber and if necessary go down a size. Also don't assume that because you have new corner brackets that they will fit perfectly. You may have to bend them slightly to achieve perfect alignment.

Steve Maggie is being painted & I also am replacing the windshield, but I saw the Brooklands racing screens--sooo cool, but do you know anything about how they set up? Randi
 
You have to drill holes for mounting. The only other way is to manufacture a bar which spans the scuttle and attaches where the windshield used to be. But even a bar will need center support which means drilling holes, unless you use the mirror mounting holes which means more brackets. The easiest way is to just drill the four holes in the body and be done with it.

Do keep in mind that the car will be VERY windy with Brooklands screens.
 
Steve, I used a brand spanking new windshield. Used the original frame, all of the corners fit perfectly. No issue with the fit of the glass into the frame. The problem is with the fit of the bottom frame onto the body, just the drivers side.

If the glass isn't perfect, it could be forcing the frame out of whack. Photos would be very helpful if that's possible. Sometimes the frame takes a bit of "wiggling" to get things lined up. Worst case, you may want to remove the glass, assemble the frame and put it on the car to see if the frame was damaged during glass replacement.
 
Finally got the glass and frame on the "A". It appears that the bottom portion of the frame had an incorrect bend in it. It is now on and the totally restored baby looks like a million dollars.
