Windscreen help...

Hey guys.

mg%20windscreen.jpg

As you can see in the above pic, when crusing around in my B, the rear vision mirror around 2500-3000 rpm SHAKES like heck and i know its because at the bottom of the windscreen shaft that holds the windscreen together there is bit of slack and wobbles around 1-1.5mm...

My question is... Is it safe to unscrew the top part of that rod thing, pull the shaft out, whack a dolop of silicone on the end (where it meets the dash),screw it back in, to stop the undesirable movement?

Thanks Jarrod /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

That center rod is essentially a wheel spoke, and can be treated as such, at the base is a spoke nut (and I mean the EXACT same piece as what's on wire wheels) you can turn it counter-clockwise to tighten the rod. If that fails then there is no harm in loosening that baseplate to put a "Gob-o-Goo) under there.
That rod is really to keep the top windscreen frame from pulling away from the glass (mainly when the top is latched to it), there's no true tension on it.

You can Tighten this rod down as has been mentioned but you have to be careful not to over tighten it.

The screens being sold for B Roadsters, at least in Oz, seem to be marginally too shallow. This means it is possible for the top bar of the screen frame to be bowed down by over tightening. when this happens the soft top header bar will not seal down properly in the middle.

My Roadster had this problem until I had it rebuilt last year and water used to blow straight in at the top centre of the frame in heavy rain.

btw Jarrod are you going to Tasmania for the MG Nat Meet Next Easter? sounds like it could be fun...

I'm From out West in Perth, so I've got a bit more of hike to get there than you guys.

Currently the plan is to send the old girl, probably the MGC GT as she has more pose value by truck to Adelade and for me to fly across and meet her there. Then drive to Melbourne around the coast, ferry across and then on to Launceston.

Afterwards do a bit of a driving holiday around Tassie and then back on the ferry back to Melbourne wher she gets trucked back and I fly back.

I'm planning on taking 3 weeks and budgeting about $6500 to do it, due to all the flying and trucking and petrol, the C is quite thirsty old girl compared to a B (although she's much better on the open road).

Oh yes I'm with the MG Car Club WA, they finally nagged me into joining after 5 odd years of trying....

Look forward to seeing you there!!

I,ve enclosed a photo of my 2 girls for you

regards

Tom
