My initial verdict... POOP! :wink-new: Now that I've viewed a few instructional videos and appreciate some of its inner workings better... half-a-POOP. You guessed it, I upgraded my home system and Windows 8 came with it. Wow is it different; it reminds me of going from Windows 3.11 to 95 all those years ago. Thankfully, there is a way to get to a traditional-looking desktop (though there is no "Start" button and no immediately obvious when to turn the computer off). Microsquish also makes it sort of hard to figure out how to change the default search engine with IE10 (yes, I know, dump that) from BING (theirs) to Google. But the worst part is that you almost have to have, or set up, a Hotmail account so-as to integrate a bunch of the software that communicate with each other. This is done at log-in. I can't stand this desire to link Facebook to Mail to Lord-Knows-What... and I'm not using those features. The best part is the hardware - which nowadays come with 1 terabyte hard-drives, 8gb+ RAM and very fast dual-core processors. It's quick. Oh, and setting up my old network (and sharing with my wife's new computer) was a snap. OK... now, having written all that, it seems that I can't hit "return" on the keyboard to start a new line (which is why this is one big paragraph). Is that the new system or something knew on the LBC group. I remember someone reporting that they couldn't double-space... and I can't even single-space now. Odd.

Hint, buy a MAC...

Mark,

Please spell it right - I hate it when things are obviously misspelled.
Kind of like "Toyz" - it's just not right.

Hey, I come from MS land (Bellevue, WA) and know a number of their programmers, so I like to tease them (and sort of feel tied to them as friends, a bit like Starbucks). I doze at Windoze. Puts me to sleep. I do also own an iPad3 and iPod Touch. :peaceful: Still, why can't I hit enter and drop down a line!

I want to say something here...

RUTABAGA!!!

Woof!

And I REALLY like CHEESE!!

I'll take the one on the left....

It's OK, Mark. Mine won't space down either and I've got XP Pro.

Yeah, I know a bunch of them still. I knew all about Vista..and that 7 was what Vista should have been had Gates not gotten involved.
Windoze is the correct spelling around here.
I will not support those bozos by buying their new operating systems.
When my XP dies, I go Mac or who knows what else.
When they changed office to .docx from .doc, made it very hard initially to open a .docx in an older OS...so, openoffice.org, here we come.
I don't need Facebook, Hotmail, Bing, or touch screens. I don't need the system changing my settings (and I was one of those hit by the "critical update WGA" that overrode my settings and did it anyway...I know how to keep them from doing that ever again, and I am set up that way now).
I would just as soon NOT have a computer at all if I had to support that income-tax supporting, (and another initiative) promoting busybody.
And, no, I won't get into it more than that.

Good for you. I just didn't have the guts to do that. One warning to others, exporting old mail and, to a lesser degree, an addressbook doesn't go nearly as smoothly as it did to go from XP to Vista. It's been a pain from Vista to 8 (and Office 2010).

OK, Basil, it would seem that others are having the problem. It's annoying and new for me. I used to use Vista (with IE9) and had no problem. I think I'll need to explore more settings... but I don't have this problem anywhere else. Odd. I suppose I could start using another browser for the group (but would rather not). I'm using IE10 that is up-to-date. Hey, wait, maybe it's the Christmas theme! :chuncky:

Just for us old codgers ... would somebody explain the "mine won't space down either" syndrome?

I've been spacing out for years ... but spacing *down* ?

Thanks.
Tom

Completely off th' grid here as far as the M$/IE thing goes, gotta agree whole-heartedly with Dave.

And "spacing down" hasn't been an issue, either. Gotta be some interaction between IExploder and the forum software.

Mark, Jim: Have ya tried a different keyboard?

He can't start a new paragraph. Something strings all the type in a continuous line.
