Windows 10

I carried out the registry edits tonight. I had the "old", simple update offer when I rebooted but I did not have the "Windows 10 is scheduled to install..." message. I am looking forward to no more sneaky attempts to install 10 on my PC. Thanks again for the video link.

I have Windows 10 on a new laptop. Now I can't access the Internet via WiFi any more. I get a message "One or more network protocols are missing on this computer' and "Windows Sockets registry entries required for network connectivity are missing". I Googled that stuff and could not make heads or tails out of the various solutions. Before I take it back to the dealer, does anyone of you techies have a quick and dirty way to restore my connection? The router is a Linksys WRT 150N and my desktop is also using it with no problems sitting right next to the laptop.

Glad to help!

It's been more than a week now and the only Win10 stuff I get is the old free update offer. The "we have scheduled your update" messages have not come back. I am pleased.

Just reversing the situation, my laptop has 10 in it and all works fine, but the desktop with 10 also, wouldn't connect to the wifi in the house, so I installed "NETIS" in the desktop and it connected to the wifi right away. The laptop is a Toshiba and the desktop is a Dell, both with W-10. I also have a Linux machine that has never had any wifi issues. PJ

As an aside and a tip-of-the-hat to Microsoft (marketing), if any are using Win 10 with Office 2016 and try connecting to an Exchange server for business e-mail, you're stuffed unless your SysAdmin is up on Exchange Server upgrades. Just came face-first into Outlook 2016's "What's New"... elimination of the ability to sync it (Outlook 2016) with Exchange AutoSync. Not happenin' with ANY version of Exchange Server earlier than latest release version. They've eliminated the ability to set up a proxy server access.

If you use Exchange for business, and Outlook for e-mail, you will be looking at paying M$ to sign on to Outlook 365 with a browser if you use the Office2016 version of Outlook locally. And no sync for working offline.

There's enough reason right there to stay away from W10. I'm sure my utility client won't be going there.

So far I've had no issue with any "lower" (earlier) version of Outlook than '16. But that entails acquiring a licensed version of discontinued software and installing it onto a Win 10 machine. All very awkward.

John. Will Open Office work in place of MS Office? I use Open Office with W-10 and all seems to work very well and so far have no issues. PJ
