window centre support

The centre support for the windscreen has a large gap between the bracket and the body mounting hole there seems too much load on this bracket and distorts the windscreen frame, what would be the suggested or recommended gap between body and bracket for slight preload? at the moment I have a 1/4 inch gap, my own judgment would be to re set the bracket to give a maximum gap of say 1/16 inch, everything else lines up and fits as original . Thanks Saltiga

There should be a rubber well nut between that gap. It's an expansion well nut that holds the center of the windscreen to the shroud.
British Car Specialist sells it. Part number AHB9794 Sells for about $4.00 Telephone 209.948.8767
Or check your local hardware store for something similar in size.
