GT6 Will this work on my GT6?

Excuse me if I sound a but stupid. This is my first carb car, I know nothing about it other than its an original zenith stromberg, it desperately needs new air filters, hornets love to hide in it, and the air box on it seems to be a bit restrictive

https://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayIS...atchlink:top:en

Says its available for dual 4 dual barrel carbs, is that what I have?

Uhm, no. Check out Spitbits They've got all the right stuff at good prices. Also their online catalog has the great parts blowups that show you how stuff goes together. British Parts Northwest also is very good although they don't have the parts blowups on their website.

No. Not to give you a short answer.
I.m not familiar with the stock air cleaner(s) on on a GT6, but I really don't think this one will work.

I agree with Eric and Jim. Pretty sure the original air box isn't available anywhere new, but I don't really know why you couldn't use just the air filter elements pictured. Both my GT6+ and Mk3 had the original air boxes, and I never really considered them restrictive.

Note that the Spitbits diagram pictures the tubes that run to the "snouts" on the airbox. They might help somewhat, but in my experience they were seldom seen on US market cars. Neither of my cars had the tubes; neither seemed to suffer for their lack.

Your GT6 should have ZS carbs so there are a number of choices, many of use the oval foam air cleaners without the airbox on the ZS carbs.

Describe these "snouts. Is that what #6 is? Where do they go to? Does anyone have a pic of it installed? My air box looks just like the one in the picture with the two pipes and such, and it was a US car. I was going to clean it up, but seeing how all the air came to the front, wasnt sure just how much air got to the 2nd carb. I figured an equal amount would be good.

I considered just getting two chrome round ones as shown on that page, but got to thinking how cool something (like my link) would be as it would fix my filter issue, and kind of bring back the idea of that large oval box with class.

Found it!

Whats that piece called and where can I get it?? I didnt know something went in front of the radiator. Was this some sort of primitive ram air?

I really like the look of the org air box but have the oval filters like the ones from Victoria page 97 the longflow brand. It came with the car. The air box is hard to find so make sure you keep it. Most rusted out or where taken off and thrown away.

I believe the black pipes were not standard and these were added. My guess is it is nothing more then vacuum cleaner hose or maybe hose that you hook to a sump pump. I wish there was a better picture of where the terminate. I would nice to see what they rigged for a scoop.

I think you will want to decide what look you want. I think either will give you enough air.

Here is a link to another look with what looks like the round filters

I think calling this ram air is being too kind. It is more like cold air (as in not so freaking hot air).

So a cold air intake? Cool!!!

Mines not rusted, just dirty looking. The plan was not to use it, even though I did like the single oval look, but had planned on keeping it anyway. I have a special box dedicated to parts that will not be going back on the car, but will not be thrown away due to historical reasons. My mirrors keep migrating back in forth from the good box to the bad. Apparently 42yo mirrors arent as functional as they were back in the day. The silver element starts to tarnish and cloud, resulting in poor reflections. I had planned on just having a local shop cut me up some new glass, but seeing that I can just spend a little more and get brand new ones, the old ones keep finding their way back into the bad-but-keep box.

Is it wrong to keep busted tail lights and door pulls?

Actually, apparently they were. They are shown not only in spitbits, but victoria british as well. Probably the same air tubes that connects the heater box to the defrosters. I bought a used but nice haynes manual. Its so old that the book is a hardcover, rather than the paperbacks they now come in. Inside there is no example of these pieces, but on the cover you can see the air pipes and the radiator shroud they go to. Haynes wouldnt publish something that was aftermarket, would they? I will have to check my owners manual and see if there are any more pics

Thats actually what I was going to do. I felt both carbs would get equal amounts of air, and actually more air, being that air would be coming from every direction instead of two small holes.

This cars a tough one. I wanna keep it original, but also want to update it. I already have plans for modern paint, power windows (window crank would be the up/down switch), A/C, and a classic autosound radio. I kinda wanna keep the air box. I think, cleaned, it would look nicer than whats in the pic. I wanna recreate the pic I showed, which I guess means I'll hafta make my own since I cant seem to find the part.

Other "originality" issues Im having is, I think all GT6 mk1 came with a white headliner. I know mine must have because the plastic on my dome light is white (yellow) But I plan on making it black, the center console I believe is supposed to be very basic, but I think Im going after the Mk2,3 look. My hood already isnt original. Im basically torn on what I want.

Bringing up the hood, thats probably why I dont have those parts. I bet this was in a front end collision. Thats why the hood is different and radiator shroud gone. Also explains my chewed up bumper and lack of bumper gaurds.

When you look at the pipe on spitbits it says it was for a mk3. That may explain why I have never seen one. I don't pay much attention to the mk3 specs like I do for the mk2.

You will have some custom work to get a\c, and electric windows in this animal. I can't wait to see it and hear what you had to do to make it happen.

VB lists it for a 66-73 GT6. I use refer to them on what originally went on the car. They have a lot of things in there they list for Mk2 & 3s that will work for Mk1s, but since it didnt originally come with such equipment, they dont list it. Since they list the hose for 66+, then it must have come with it. I will check my owners manual for pics when I get home from work.

Very cool, (air that is), I did this with my '70 TR6. as the early boxes had the
two pipes also. I put a scoop on a new alum shield with wire mesh covering the hole. Works great, so I did it on a friends Spit with one single pipe and a vacuum cleaner scoop, just messing around and it worked great.
Just call me weird Wayne or Wayne's World. I think I have an early GT6 box, but it didn't have the pipes, I'll check if anyone needs it.

Strange... ...the few pics or drawings I see with the radiator shroud cover seem to not have holes... ...the ones with holes, obviously have the hose running through
