Dug, you read my mind regarding a later car with a retro look. I'm thinking about taking a Sprite MKIII, modifying the rear quarter panels and a portion of the rear deck to match a Bugeye's and replacing the front fenders and hood with a Bugeye bonnet. A Bugeye with a trunk and roll up windows so to speak.

I've always been fascinated by the conversion Joe Egle did several years ago. https://www.familycar.com/Classics/AustinHealeySprite/. My though is to make it as "Bugeyeish" as possible, thus my question about the dash.
I thought a Sprite MKIII might be the best candidate because everything under the bonnet looks about the same as a Bugeye. Not must modification needed there.
Still just wild imagination at this point.

My issue is the wing(vent, quarterlight) window. I think it spoils the lines. But I've thought about the same type project.

I agree that the profile would look better w/o the side vents. I found some additional photos of Joe Egle's car. https://flickr.com/photos/guero/sets/72157609838137169/ There are a few refinements that I would probably try to make around the rear tail lights.
To further this madness, I'm also fascinated by the Gerry Coker's original prototype bonnet. The "poorman's Ferarri" version. Might try to replicate that as well. Not sure in that scenario what I would do with the headlights. Coker's prototype was painted "Testarossa Red". I would likely go in that direction as well.

I think that prototype bonnet would look nice with the lights set in the front of the wings like the "walker type" bonnet.

The Walker bonnet is likely pretty close to the prototype. The nose on the prototype appears to be a bit longer and the grille area tilted forward slightly.

Yeah but it's the headlights in the middle of the hood that give the car character. Just not the same without them.
